Building the contemporary electric guitar – with Crimson Guitars
At Crimson Guitars we build unique bespoke guitars and basses and our work is not limited by materials or blind traditions. Master luthier Ben Crowe draws heavily on his training in building baroque violins and viola da gambas but has spent the last decade expanding his skills to encompass the disciplines of engineering and modern design. A custom guitar is not just about woodwork and at we create bespoke pickups and hardware, including ball bearing based perfect-pitch tremolo systems. We are not limited to working in wood, though it is our first love. Carbon fibre and cast resins have their place in a modern guitar and we are even building guitars with shaped copper or steel tops.
This section of the website, dedicated to the art and practices of building guitars, will develop into a resource hub for guitar builders and aspiring luthiers everywhere. For years we have been publishing a photographic record of each custom guitar in The Guitar Builders Blog and in our daily social media feeds. We are now compiling a collection of articles, and more importantly, videos on our guitar building techniques. The biggest project so far is a 15 video series, about 2 hours of footage, following one guitar built from start to finish, the first of these videos is embedded below. Link through to the content through the menus and feel free to suggest any topic for an article or video through the Contact pages.. you could even order your dream guitar!
