the King 21 string twin neck guitar

This custom twin neck guitar, hand built by luthier Ben Crowe at Crimson Guitars in the UK, was inspired by John Petruccis Music Man guitars, they do not do a double neck version of his model and that is where the custom guitar builders come in. The basic instruments that make up this bespoke guitar are a 7 string on the bottom and a 14 string on the top.

The one piece aldar body (yes.. one really wide chunk of tone wood) is solid on the 7 string guitar side and hollow under the 14 string with a tone block directly under the hand made padouk bridge. Because of the semi-hollow construction there is a 5mm thick maple top underneath the flip flop colour changing finish. The mahogany necks are loaded with dual action truss rods and locking Schaller tuners and are bolted to the body with 5 bolts through custom brass neck plates made at the Crimson Guitars workshops.

The 7 string tremolo, another custom made piece of hardware created in house, is solid brass and is based on John Petruccis preferred bridge. The dual seven string humbuckers are by Dimarzio and are a Liquifire at the neck and a Crunch Lab at the bridge. The 14 string side of the twin neck instrument has a hand made bridge with a customised Ghost graphite piezo loaded saddles under each pair of strings and is fed through the fantastic Ghost Acoustiphonic preamp. There are two Jack outputs, one is a mix of both necks, one is just magnetic or if both have jack plugs inserted you can rout each neck to different amps.

The custom inlays are chess pieces done in various reconstituted stones, set into premium ebony fret-boards and complementing the gold coloured hypo-allergenic fret wire perfectly. The final question with twin neck guitars is always one of weight and this, heavily loaded, custom guitar comes in at only 14lbs!
