vee mach II
The Vee Mach II - general design notes

Everyone is familiar with the Gibson Flying Vee on which I based this beastie.. the design changes I've made though reflect the fact that not many people want to have a 12lb sharp-edged behemoth around their neck while jumping around the stages of the world.  First off she has a much slimmer profile that the original, which is created by adding a curve to the outside edges of the v and she is about three inches shorter than her progenitor too.  The depth of the guitar is only 45 mm.. as opposed to 60 in the original.. and she is obviously carved for comfort on the back too.

Hardware, as ever, is top quality but my favourite bit is the six piece bridge, this translates over into mch greater string to string clarity when doing chordal work.. a surprising thing on an electric, but welcome nonetheless.  The timbers used also have a bearing on the clear but warm acoustic and amplified tones we get with her.  The light-weight mahogany used in the multi-laminate through-neck and the flamed sycamour cap give a warmth and depth that is off-set by the density of the zebrano and purple heart used in the wings.. matched with a custom wound set of Wizard humbuckers we end up with a truly versatile beast of a guitar.. at home with both uber-heavy metal and laid back blues based rock and roll.. ideal!

Part of the design process that I find supremely important is how the wood looks in comparison to the shape of the guitar.. with a Vee shape such as this that is easy to meld together.. every piece of wood, including the neck sections angles out from a central point.. accentuating the Vee shape and bringing a pleasing symetry to the whole design.. also by using violin-style purfling around the front of the guitar instead of standard binding I accentuate the shape without overloading the eye with superfluose details.. with this guitar it is the shape and wood that do the talking not fancy inlays or paintwork.. that has a place in the Crimson Guitars stable too of course, but the trick is knowing what to use and where.  Here we have a superbly balanced blend of ergonomic guitar design and natural timbers which sounds amazing and plays even better.
