Bit of news first, under the resources page you’ll now find a few new pages of usefulness..
the guitar information pack is a pdf that you can download that walks you through most of the decisions you’ll need to make while ordering a custom instrument from us..
On the Spec Form page you get pdf, word and interactive versions of the exhaustive lists of specs we follow when building your bespoke visions.. hopefully all this will make it easier for everyone to order a guitar or two? Enjoy!
1
hi.. we start with this Scorpion model.. she’s been settling down under tension for a while now so it’s time for a setup..
2
one of the frets is low.. which means they all need dressing..
3
and profiling
4
and buffing to a high gloss!
6
she’s restrung and tuned
7
and the brass angled nut is worked on a bit, the nut height is absolutely critical in the guitars setup!
8
the graph tech saddles are next on the agenda.. and she’s done.. and sounds amazing with that low low C!
9
Fred’s slim next..
10
got an intermitant fault to find, turns out one of the pots is shorting on the shielding.. even though I’d shielded the shielding with an anti-static bag.. we’ll do better next time!
11
the sustainer is sounding distinctly underwhelming so I swap out the neck single coil.. this boosts the sustainers signal and adding a humbucker here should make a massive difference,..
12
but it doesn’t..?
13
while I think on that the Wilkinson trem is adjusted..
14
next up some new, squarer, pickup surrounds are made from some purpleheart..
15
cut by hand, of course..
16
over the next few days the fresh cut purpleheart will change colour to match the control knobs..
17
friction polish is applied and we’re away..
18
looking much better than the original mahogany ones!
19
now, the next paf hollow has a bit of setup, the tremolo is a bit stiff..
20
I love the look of these backplates, this model is definitly evolving into my favourite one!
22
the last thing to do it create a new trem arm out of this stainless steel rod..
23
the igor is currently working on his planing skills..
24
..and here she is, finished! and cased in her bit of Hiscox loveliness!
25
success for igor, I remember spending days trying to get this process done as well as he’s done in a few hours!
26
I told you they would match colours over time.. I do like these surrounds!
27
now, back to Fred’s slim..
29
I swap the humbucker out to see if that is the reason for her underwhelming sustainer sound..
30
..
31
it isn’t though.. the only options now are a power fault or a messed up pcb.. and everything points to a power issue.. that’s tomorrows first job.. more wiring!
28
a quick go on the stock Scorpion.. playing with a f-shape (the actual chord is an f#) is surprisingly comfortable given the fanned frets.. she plays like a dream!
All my best,
Ben
