The day begins with this RF Hollow, she needs some bits and pieces.. just a few!!
the Kahler trem mounting holes are drilled and champhered
earth wire put in place.. theres few things more annoying than forgetting this until you come to wire her up!!
Wizard PAF type humbucker.. custom wound for this beastie..
In the process of fitting the single-coil humbucker and the Sustainer driver into the pickup ring a wire came loose and had to be re-soldered
Just to give you an idea of how many wires are involved..
the bridge pickup ring has a section cut out to make way for the MIDI wires
and everything is fitted and ready for wiring… (for about a minute.. you’ll see!)
the tuner mounting holes are reamed to size.. when the instrument is sprayed the holes become slightly smaller due to the laquer and need tidying up..
locking Sperzel tuners (the best tuners I know of!) are installed..
At this point I remember that the original plan for this guitar was that I would lower the bridge into the top a bit.. so a template has to be made..
It takes about an hour or so to make an accurate template
and you end up with this..
All the pickups etc are removed
and the router comes out again.. for the last time on this guitar..
the bridge ends up recessed (after the sides of the new route were painted black of course)
tomorrow I start the guitar at basically the same place.. although at least everything will go in much quicker and I’ll be able to get on with the wiring.. one of the least fun jobs I have to do, especially on the RF models as there are so many different things that have to come together!
Still, that’s tomorrow.. all my best!
