Saturday 9th May ’09

the day starts out with the routing of the outline of Nick’s bespoke 4 string les Paul type bass guitar.. a bearing cutter on the half inch router do the job nicely..

the bookmatched figured pearwood top was jointed yesterday, and today I mark out the body shape and the neck pocket

the bandsaw (underneath a handy skylight..) is used to rough cut the top outline..

the neck pocket is filed and carefully fitted..

very carefully fitted!!

the glueing surface is planed perfectly flat

and she is glued together..

..day two.. the excess pearwood is routed away

and the carving process starts..

after a lot of dust is produced she is pretty much there

the headstock shape is marked out.. after cutting into the original full scale design

the bobbin sander is brought out to shape the headstock.. after the bandsaw came into play of course!!

the top is rough sanded with the large random orbital sander.. just to give us an idea of how gorgous she will be in the end!!

and the bridge (a genius design!) and the wizard humbuckers are marked out.. much routing etc next week!!
All my best!!! Ben
