Now, this eight string has been through carious different stages in design and prototyping.. and it’s not over yet.. we are currently working on the headless tuning system..
possibly to act something like this..?
the lathe has seen a lot of variations of this over the past weeks
and here is this one.. it does the job but I now have more ideas on how to improve both the action and the looks.. ferment away my little aluminium friend..
Now, On to Nick’s new custom guitar..
the multi-laminate neck blank is ripped in two on the bandsaw
and flattened on the top of the planer..
all of the dimensions of the neck are marked in place
and excess mahogany is removed..
the two way truss rod placement is checked
and while I concentrate I feel the reproachful eyes of Bud and Jasper.. which is slightly less annoying than the constant squeak that that particular toy/dog combination is capable of!
the truss rod cavity is routed
and the sides of the neck and deep set tenon joint are planed perfectly flat and square
the end of the summer that never was is in sight and the local squirels are stockpiling.. at speed!
.. more routing
and finally the ebony fretboard is glued in place..
Now, Ben’s ultra lightweight vanquish is ready for a body
the mahogany is thicknessed
marked out
and cut to size.. while Jasper waits in the background.. he is very persistant!
and here is what she’s going to become over the next weeks..
Have a great weekend!
