Tuesday 11th March ’08
the day begins with Charlies neck, the acrylic headstock was glued in a few days go and left to dry..
the excess wood and perspex is removed with my Japanese saw file..(a masterful piece of engineering!!)
and with a very sharp plane
then the excess off the back of the neck is removed
and the radius planed on the fingerboard.
the fret positions are marked out
and the slots cut.. carefully as always!
next up the inlays, in order to be a bit different I’m cutting up sections of aluminium rod, when polished up these shine quite nicely..
…I’ve been trying to catch this picture for months now!!!! .. hehe
on to Jonathans neck… the inlays have dried quite nicely and the excess glue is removed with a small file
and then the entire fretboard is polished through the grits
next up the binding channels are routed with my lovely little mini-router
and then the maple and walnut binding is glued in place
back to Charlies inlays.. the exces aluminium is filed away
and then the whole thing is polished and prepared for fretting
the frets are glue and hammered in place and left to dry..
and then, the final act of the day, the excess bits of binding are removed from Jonathan’s neck and she is ready for some fretwork tomorrow..
Till then, Ben
