Wednesday the 16th day of June 2010

we’re back with the fan fretted eight string guitar, the truss rod cover has been specced to make her look ‘normal’ from a distance

and we’ve managed to match the rosewood up rather nicely..

the final touch is, with a bending iron, to bend the smaller section over so that it follows the headstock break angle and is fully recessed into the headstock.. it’s the little aesthetic things that make the difference here!

that and the big ones.. she looks stunning with strings on!

control knobs and the recessed jack plate are installed

and the back plate, carved of course, is rubbed down and buffed up..

and installed..

after wiring for sound.. ~(the range is amazing!!)~

she is roughly set up and left to settle for a while..

the igor has been putting the hollow Vanquish together and she too is wired and set up..

one last sojourn in the spray booth for Fred’s slimline guitar

and then for me it is on to Kirk’s Moonshine

the finish is rubbed down, 1500 grit wet and dry in this case

all over..

oh my, looking at this photo gives me a very good feeling about the final look of this beastie.. she’s going to be great!

after a few hours buffing

to a stunning shine!

after leveling, profiling and polishing each fret it’s time to move on..

excess lacquer is removed from the tuner holes

and locking Sperzels are installed, a bone nut blank is roughed out

and finally carved and perfectly fitted in my, by now, signature scalloped nut..

the custom pickups look a bit strange when direct mounted to the body

so I make a set of custom surrounds from the side of an old mahogany drawer

under oil it doesn’t look half bad!

the custom wound, independantly angled, pickups are installed.. directly mounted to the body of course

and the magnetic surrounds are next.. the ‘no screw’ look is very very nice!

now, the lacquer on Fred’s slim has cured

and is rubbed perfectly flat

while I’m doing that the igor is doing the same to these custom saddles.. lovely job mate!

this is the last batch of custom hardware on the to do list… for now..

and it’s ready for anodising..

I dfinally buff the slim.. and we’re amazed, we’re finally getting the sort of finishes I’ve wanted from day one.. it’s taken years and loads of money to get to this point.. what do we do now?

my but it is pretty!

more wiring.. this is the paf blackburst

and her MIDI system is wired in.. just the variax to go then..

now, to the moonshine.. our latest custom single string bridge design is here..

seperate bridges and saddles with height adjustment by way of a single large grub screw

and they are rather pretty!
All my best to you and yours,
Ben
