Thursday, Suun drive down from London to design their new bespoke bass guitar.. Philou the amazing bass player suffered from brittle bone disease and has various specific needs from the instrument..

so the way that he plays is carefully looked at prior to designing the new beast..

his steinberger is used as the basis.. from a weight point of view we will stick with the headless design.. however for Philou’s comfort the scale length will be shortened to 30 inches while leaving the neck the same length, basically a short proto-heastock, which will keep the string tension the same and allow us to use the same length ball end strings as on the original..

Custom wound wizard pickups will be used.. probably in this configuration…

and here she is, through neck construction (a multi-laminate section of maple and padouk) with a body and proto-headstock of red perspex.. possibly with a cap of neon edge light perpex just to add to the effect!

Once the design session was over the boys had their walk, which on a day as lovely as this is well worth the time taken out!

the final sanding process on Tim’s Slimline is begun, both with sanders and sharp scrapers.. unfortunately most of Friday was taken up with meetings and admin.. you wouldn’t believe how many hours it can take to find one reliable supplier of edge lit perspex!!!

Anyway, The next diary update will be on Tuesday night to make up for todays paucity!
