how to build a guitar blog

Tuesday 2nd June ’09

1

The begining is several happy hours spent sharpening various chisels and whatnot..

4

then, after sharpening a pencil with one of them the inlay for Andy’s plagiarist

5

and then the long process of prototyping a piezo loaded headless bridge tuner begins..

6

in the process of the final polishing of nick’s bass I, rather stupidly, put a small dent in the upper bout..

6

…dniwer

7

and she’s stained again.. after sanding right through the grits of course…

8

the first coats of oil are applied.. again..

9

and here’s the next prototype of the headless bridge.. the lower curved line marks where the end of the extended range bass will have to be..

10

we move on.. the Bubinga topped hollowbody is ready..

11

the side dot positions are marked out

12

and the dots installed

13

and, slowly but surely, all the binding is scraped clean and

14

the entire guitar is sanded through the grits

15

and oiled.. lemon oil to start, it’s thin and penetrates well..

16

then coats of teak oil.. they are left on for about 20 minutes and then

18

the excess is then wiped off,

19

giving you the beginings of a really great natural finish!

All my best, Ben
