A guitars’ fret ends need to be bevelled at a 35-degree angle and then rounded over to make for the most comfortable neck that you can have. This new tool, a unique design devised by the luthiers at Crimson Guitars, safely and accurately files the fret ends to the required angle.  The smooth wood runs along the top of your frets and does no damage there while the file works on both sides and so you don’t have to change the position of the neck on your workbench.  The file is also carefully ground with safe edges so that even if you slip it is unlikely to damage your guitar and fits nicely above the top on most fixed neck instruments.

They are made in local English ash come finished in hard wearing melamine lacquer with a wax polish and as standard with a quality smooth cut file that is firmly glued along its entire length to the comfortable handle for the maximum stability and to keep the file perfectly flat.  They are 2 inches wide and 4 inches long and made in the UK using predominantly exotic timber off-cuts from our guitar making business.

Bevelling fret ends is a job that can be tiresome very quickly if you are trying to do it by hand. This file, though, takes all the guesswork out of getting the perfect angle. Using this and following up with a small file to round the edges over gives great results, saves time, and also stops me tearing out what little hair I have left.

Unfortunately, I dislike this tool very much. The handle is nice, but the file itself has a weird rounded feeling, both horisontally and vertically.
Difficult to control, almost impossible to avoid slipping up on the fretboard now and then.
At least for a person who is not trained/skilled, but a trained luthier/carpenter would not need this kind of tool anyway.
I think a fret end bevelling file should be fool-proof, not-skilled-proof etc. And this tool clearly is not.
Perhaps I should add that I’m reasonably comfortable with hand tools and machine tools in general and that I have never before posted a review this negative, in any context.
Why not use a flat file for this kind of tool, as Stewmac and others do?

Love it. Very quick at bevelling those ends. Took a few weeks to get to me but worth the wait in the end.
